Of course, I'm a bit biased since I work for PDX (on CK2 and the wikis). There are some DLCs you definitely don't want to play without once you've played with them (namely, Common Sense and Art of War), but I'd argue as long as you haven't experienced their features, the game is great even without them. They often have a few of the older DLCs plus a ton of unit packs and other graphics updates. Always check what they'll actually give you and if that's worth it for you.
